Day 1

I have been searching for something to do, someway to work out that is motivating. I want to look not fat fabulous for my step-daughter's upcoming graduation from High School. This means I have about 2 months to do SOMETHING that get me off my ass and Facebook and get in shape.

My son was in Taekwondo a year or so ago. He quit because it got highly expensive and the place decided to move far away to make it not easy to get to. His friends are taking Taekwondo at the same location as the old place that a new Master came and took over so we decided to check it out.

I stopped by the other day and actually had a very nice long conversation with Master S and talk about excited. I was so excited that I decided that I would put the redheaded kid back in it and join him as well. It is affordable and more family oriented....what not to love.

Today, was my first day. I conquered my fears and went and put a gee on and got out there with younger children that know what to do and I embarrassed myself (note to self: next time wear a shirt underneath your gee so you quit flashing the entire class) but I got out there and did it. I was quite impressed with myself in the fact that I conquered my initial fear of trying.

I have a lot of fears. Too many to count really. To name a few, I am afraid that I am too old to learn new tricks. I am afraid I am going to make that nice little Master regret trying to teach me. Let's face it I am not the Karate Kid. I am not as spry as I used to be when I was younger. I also come with more weight...more than I have ever weighed. I am afraid that I will wear out too soon and embarrass myself in front of the younger people...namely my child. I am afraid I am going to be an embarrassment to my sweet redheaded kid.

I have a lot of excitement too. I am excited that I am going to get fit. I am excited that I have a goal to work too. I am excited that I have a special time to hang with my child and do something productive for BOTH of us. I am excited that my first night went well. I learned my first form. I learned how to bow before I walk in and out. I CAN learn! This is excitement!

So now I just have to get over my fears and move on to Day 2!

Spring Break and Star Wars

It is spring break this week and we are chillaxing (as the red-headed kid would say) by watching Star Wars. Okay I won't lie. I have seen Star Wars and really have no desire to sit through 12 hours of Star Wars this week, with that being said, the kid, is having a BLAST!

He has already figured out how to help Luke and Obi Wan defeat the clones by doing something or another before they....well I really was listening I just couldn't concentrate on the whole long scenario he was explaining. It must have gone over my head.

I told him that we should go ahead and contact George Lucas and my kid turns around and says with big eyes "No, Star Wars doesn't need to be remade. You don't remake the good ones."

Mr. Lucas would be proud to hear that, I am sure of it.

Times a changin.....is there anything good about it?

I am back. For how long, well that isn't determined yet.

Let's jump into it and talk about some really important stuff. Daylight savings time. What a crock of crap these days. I haven't the foggiest of why we continue to use it. If you have a huge suggestion as to why...comment.

So this morning Hubster and I were discussing how badly it sucked to lose an hour and how the little red-head was going to be going to bed when it is light outside....see he goes to bed at 8PM. He needs to go to bed at this time or he is a BEAR in the morning. We have finally found the nighttime routine that works for him.....so this is going to suck. We even told the little red-head that. He just doesn't know how bad it sucks yet....soon he will....in just like 7 hours.....ugh.

Hubster made a comment that there was no good thing anymore about DST and so I set out this morning in search of a good thing about it. I have only thought of negatives so why not think positive and find ONE good thing about it.

As I was doing the dishes from a kick ass kid party we had last night....yeah I am bad doing dishes the next day....go ahead and judge.....as I am doing the dishes I look over at the one clock we haven't changed yet (the microwave) and saw that it said 11:30.....then it dawned on me.....it was really....get it....12:30!!!! Hallelujah....it was time to have a beer and no one could say anything because it was really 12:30 not 11:30 as my microwave wanted me to believe.

One good thing....and I found it. There is no other good thing as of right now that I can think of....but I have my beer.

Well...I am back.

I have a list of things that I am really excited about sharing with you. Just a few things on my list is....Taekwondo and my goal of becoming a black belt, getting ready for my hubster's daughter's HS graduation in May and a lot of fun things in between. Strap in for the ride...I'll try not to be flaky.

Happy Indepence Day!

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave. ~Elmer Davis

Thank you to all of the men and women who have fought, currently fighting or about to go off and fight for our country. It is because of each one of you that we are able to celebrate freedom.

Much love!

I've heard it comes in threes....

First it was Ed McMahon (1923-2009)

Next it was Farrah Fawcett (1947-2009)

then Michael Jackson (1958-2009).....

RIP

I got your definition....

Flabbergasted -–verb (used with object) to overcome with surprise and bewilderment; astound.

I have said this word at least 15 times in the last few days. Sometimes about personal stuff, sometimes family stuff, and then the blowup today fit the definition perfectly. Let me tell you what happened. It is a doozy.

What: An altercation and it wasn't like this kind of fighting....

When: 1PM

Where:
I had always heard about fights at Cheesy-chucks back in the good ole days when they served beer. I have never seen one any other time I have been there until today and of all things, I was involved.

How: I was sitting at my table and watching my son go from game to game playing. He found a helicopter game that was empty and he hopped in it and put his coin in the slot. So I turned my head back around to my plate and next thing I know my son is standing next to me crying telling me that a lady pulled him out of the helicopter game. He said he had put money in the game and she came over and told him to get out and pulled him out because her granddaughter was going to play it.

My inner momma bear came out full force. How dare someone pull my child out of a game for no reason especially if he put money in said game. I grabbed my son's hand and told him to show me EXACTLY who pulled him out of the game. We walked around the tables over to the game and encountered the grandmother who assaulted my son. My child was crying at this point when we walked up and (I call her the g-ma) G-Ma said "you don't need to be crying boy".

I turned around and said "Excuse me?" And then calmly explained how my child said that she pulled him out of the game and if that was the case, she should know that she should keep her hands off of my child.

She stated she did not touch my child but did tell him to get out. I explained to her that my son had put money in the machine. Then all hell broke loose.

The G-ma's daughter swooped in out of no where and whipped her sun glasses off and started waving them in my face. I politely asked her to please get her glasses out of my face and to calm down.

"Bitch, I will do whatever I want with my sunglasses!" she screamed.

I stayed pretty damn calm the entire time. She on the other hand was irate and per the G-ma a "hot-head". When I asked that she lower her voice and calm down her voice would get louder. Security was called over and a little girl who worked at the establishment came and asked if there was anything she could do as I asked her to please calm this lady down as I turned to ask my child and my friend's child to go sit down that we would be right back over there in a minute.

My friend grabbed my purse and ran to my aid when she saw what was going down and started talking to the G-ma as the daughter was screaming at me.

I turned back to the irate daughter who was yelling at the worker/security that I had called her rude in which I responded that I had not told her that but that was exactly how she was acting and especially in front of her children. Well that set her off again.....

My friend and I made eye contact and walked away from the situation and attended to our children. The psycho daughter continued on screaming at the security for a couple of minutes after we even left the situation.

It was embarrassing as I noticed that the whole eating area was focused in on exactly what was going down and I was in the middle of it. It wasn't what we asked for at all.

My first thought is I wonder what her poor children have to witness at home if she is this vile and abusive out in the public to the public. Most people have a face for home and vice versus for the public.

WOW.....I am still flabbergasted. Is this what the world is coming to? Stupid, uneducated, hotheads all over raising the next generation?

My son was promptly walked back to the game and allowed to play without fear of some crazy women.

A Day at the Aquarium

We went to the downtown aquarium today. They are running a "Two for Tuesday" special. The kiddo and I had a BLAST with some friends of ours.

Here are some pictures of some of the cool things we got to see.

These are gold speckled fish (that is not the actual name). The sides of their body actually look like shimmering gold in the light.

Here we have the octopus. He/She would not let me take a picture of her face. It was shy!

Here is a shark that swam above my head. It was an awesome sight. (I am quite fascinated by sharks.)

Ahh.....the jelly fish. How much fun I had standing and watching these amazing creatures.

At the end of the tour of the aquarium, there are white tigers. There are 4 on the premises but only one at a time on display. They change the tigers out every 2 hours to keep the tigers day changed up. The white tiger above was just chillin'.

The above tiger had just seen his "chef" that piqued his interest. He watched intently and then started pacing.

It was a great day! The kid got to ride all the rides he wanted as many times as he wanted and I got to hang with him and my friends and we laughed most of the day.

Laughter is my guage to how good the day is.....and today was Awesome!

the mohawk, a shiner and crappy insurance

We gave the red-headed child a Mohawk for the summer. It is long right now because I can't wait to get him to sit still long enough for him to have it molded above his head. (pictures promised!)

The very next day after he got his 'hawk, he got slammed in the eye by the universe (actually a kid's ankle...total accident) and tore his EYELID totally OPEN. There was OPEN FLESH, people!

Once I saw his open flesh, I freaked out just a bit and relied on another mother (Thank GOD she is First Aid trained) and I let her take care of the initial care as getting him the ice pack and applying it and had the kid totally calm.

I calmly got his father on the phone as we were at a neighbors house when this occurred and calmly told hubster that we were semi okay but to "get his butt in the truck and come and pick the both of us up immediately and get your wallet, cause we are going to the Urgent Care."

He got there before I was even able to get the child out the door of the house. My new found mama friends got my baby in the truck and we were able to get on the road immediately. On the way to the urgent care we got into a bit of a traffic jam. While I was calling the insurance company my child exclaimed "At least it wasn't my nuts!". Priceless.

Once we got to the dreaded Urgent Care, the child was more worried about the toys he was going to get to play with instead of how his eye hurt. Because we have crappy insurance, it would have cost us over $200 to have him seen. Hubster and I re-evaluated his eye with the nurse and we all agreed that his eyelid had already sealed itself and that we should just do what they would do and clean it and dress it.

Instead of $200.....it cost me only $18 at Walgreen's and $30 at Gamestop this morning for the little man. He deserved a game after all of that. What can I say....I am just glad that he still has his eye. I was pretty scared at first at how it looked. Now it is just a little bruised and he thinks it is cool to have a Mohawk AND a shiner!

Doing the dance

So we have finally made it to the last day of school!

Here he is doing his happy dance.

Sorry it is a bit blurry....he was twisting around and I didn't have the right setting. Oh well....but I do see that my pile of stuff to be put away is in clear focus!

Later, pictures of his new summer haircut.

Countdown is almost over!

So we are gearing up for summer around here. Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the last day of First Grade for the little red-headed child that lives in my house.

He is so excited he can't stand it!

This is going to be our summer!

The countdown ends tomorrow at 3:45PM.

Instead of the teacher constantly hearing my son chatter all day....it will be my job.

Talk to me at the end of summer, but I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited!

Bring it!

Hazzard County

Can you stand one more flashback television talk?

We got the red-headed son the First Season of The Dukes of Hazzard for Christmas last year. He ATE it up! I mean how can you not get a little excited about a nice Dodge Charger getting jumped in each episode and running from the "law". There's Bo, Luke, Jessi and even Daisy Duke. Then you got Boss Hogg in his white suit and sheriff Roscoe P Coltrain. Roscoe has some killer lines and is always chasing the Duke boys. Then you got the mechanic....Cooter. Seriously... just the good ole' boys!

So for the end of the school year treat for the kiddo I ordered Season 2 & 3 (pictured below) for a killer price.

I think he really likes Daisy..... come on that is where they got the name for little short shorts!

I wonder if we will ever find out why they are really running from the law? I don't think it is ever said is it? It has been years since I had sat down and watched a full episode. I wonder if it will be even cheesier the second time around?

Now on to finishing up our summer plans.

What plans you got going on?

Old Fashion Television

Lately, we have been bombarded with crap television when the red-headed child has the remote. He is 7, so his favorite shows right now are mind-numbing crap.

The other day the hubster and I were talking about shows that we used to love as kids and how we wished that they were still showing.....well guess what.....they are! Hubster went and started recording The Brady Bunch this weekend for the red-headed child to see (and us too!).

I mentioned to the hubs that I was afraid that the red-headed child would want a big family and have a bunch of brothers and sisters (or at least one that lives with him) from watching the show. Since that isn't going to happen I wanted to make sure that this wasn't a concern for him and sent hubster to talk to him (ya know father to son). He had been asking for a brother or sister not so long ago.....

I mean, who wouldn't want a big family as a child that doesn't have another brother or sister living in the house with him? I think I would as an "only" child. Just think of all the stuff you could do and blame on your siblings.....

Of course not, not my child, he isn't concerned about having another brother or sister......no, not him. My child wanted to know how he could get an "Alice" and how much would she cost!?!

I guess I should be pleased that he doesn't think that I am his "Alice". His wife on the other hand.....watch out!

Next up is Gilligan's Island.....

I can't wait to introduce this to the kid this summer. I believe there will be lots of laughs and I can't wait to hear him ask the first time why everyone else that comes on the island is able to leave but not Gilligan and his friends.

I can't wait to hear him learn the catchy intros to the shows......ahhh good times!

What old shows are you fond of and want to watch again?

Cleanse yourself

Did you miss me? I have taken a bit of a hiatus from blogging.

Let me get right to the point of this post. Cleansing. Cleansing of the house, of my friend's garage but most importantly my body.

Me and a friend are taking the As Seen On TV Dual-Action Cleanse.

I have actually been very excited about this. I secretly watched the entire infomercial and was a bit creeped out by the rep on the infomercial, Klee Irwin, seen below.

Even though Klee (what a name) creeped me out I read each review I could find. I even read all the negative reviews but still wanted to try it. So I was really excited when me and my friend went to GNC and spoke to a really nice employee and he gave us all the facts about each of their cleanses and he suggested the Dual Action Cleanse as it had Anti-gas and Anti Bloat Digestive Enzyme Blend.

The instructions are to take one of each of the pills once in the morning and once at night. It is supposed to help cleanse your colon. It is supposed to last 15 - 45 days depending on how much you need.

I won't gross you out and tell you about what happens when I go to the restroom but I will say that after the first day I was awoken out of a dead sleep with the urge to go to the restroom. It was not a pleasant feeling. I used the restroom 8 times within 5 hours. If the medicine is supposed to last 15 - 45 day, I am scared. I don't think I will be taking more than one pill in the morning and one at night....heck I might break down and just take one a day.

I swear my colon is already clean and Klee is just blowing smoke.

But because I spent money on this, I am going to get my money out of it. Let's see how long I can last.

So maybe I lie a little.

I said I would be all cheery and shit today....sorry.....I sometimes lie.

I found this video that the Founding Bloggers took after the CNN reporter below rapped her story up.

Bravo! There are weirdos that come to everything...protests, the local library, they even show up to church! The media is always the first to jump to find these people and wrap up each individual's reason for being there with what this whack job has to say. I am glad that it was pointed out.

It isn't a republican or democratic thing. This is serious. Our government needs to know that we will not stand for this outrageous spending.

I was sent this website today which was done by the American Majority. It is a great tool to find out what to do now....after the tea party.

100th Post

This is my hundredth post. I have been trying to think of what to blog about and how I would like to honor this being number 100.

This wasn't really the post I wanted to post today but it is one that has become pretty damn important. Now I don't cuss on this blog except for now. (I do use wonderfully vibrant cuss words in my real world, so I figured I would save my sailor mouth and not attack you with it here.....you're welcome!)

*If you are offended by what I am about to say or the words I am probably going to pepper it with then please move on today. I will be back with a cheery post tomorrow.....but today well it is too damn important not to talk about.*

Yesterday we took an opportunity to attend a Tea Party in a smaller Texas town not so far from our big city. I wanted to go to the smaller town so that we could bring our red-headed son with us.

Before we had left the house I had signs made up for us. I had this one for the kid.

(Now before anyone goes off on taking my 7 year old to a protest....let me tell you just to fuck off. This is my child and when you have a child of your own you can decide what you will and will not take said child to. )

We talked to our child about what we were going to go and do and asked him if he would like to go with us. We explained that this was a privelege that we get to exercise being an American citizen. "This is an awesome day!", I told him. He was excited to go and hold his sign (for at least 1/2 the time).

The protest was held across the street from the local post office.

I can tell you the lump I had in my throat as we walked up and saw the hundred's of people that were standing with signs and showing their peaceful but strong protest against the runaway government spending (Republican and Democrat). All across America people were making a statement to the Government that we need change but not change that will hurt our grandchildren. Not change that will let these big corporations rape the American people and it be okay. Not change that won't let our small businesses thrive but instead make it impossible to have a business.

Finally, people were stepping out of their houses and standing together and making our voices heard. Some even were stepping out in Boston Tea Party era garb.

It was an amazing site to see. At one point a speaker led a prayer for our governmental officials. It was a very peaceful gathering. I was all like......"Yay, look at us. Look at us peacefully protesting. This has to make a difference. They have to listen to us."

Or at least that is what I was thinking until I came home later that night and posted on a forum that I regularly read and asked if anyone had attended a Tea Party in their area. I was met with complete misunderstanding of what it was all about. Even what the news was reporting was misunderstanding the reasons. They were making it out to be that we just don't want to pay taxes. Some of the comments have my blood boiling even now. One person even commented "i like roads and having my trash picked up and police officers and that poor people can eat (sometimes) and children having healthcare and libraries and medical research....."

Ummmm....well I do too. Who stated anything different? I pay my taxes regularly. I also know that the taxes that takes care of all of those things are the state taxes. It really has nothing to do with why we were protesting. Who would protest that?

People were also saying this was all about Race and Obama....ummm.....nope. Not that either! Bush had a HUGE hand in this. Obama is trying to clean up his predecessor's mess. But all these bail outs were passed way too quickly. This is going to affect generations to come.

Sometimes you have to just let these companies fail. If the corporation is too big to fail, there is something wrong. Everything can fail. That doesn't mean that our grandchildren should have to pay for the greed of these fat cat bankers and executives.

Then I came across this reporter on CNN that takes the fucking cake.....seriously....the fucking cake!

I don't watch the news often. I don't read the newspapers unless there is a sale going on and I wanna get the coupons. I take on all the bad and can't shake it off. I don't believe that our airwaves are going to be non-biased. Someone owns them and gets to decide what gets played on the air and how it is going to be presented. I mean look above. Is that really how reporters are supposed to report? She didn't even let anyone finish their sentence. Just amazing!

I guess I am just amazed at how many people attended yesterday in many cities and small towns yesterday and how it was (or wasn't in many cases) reported. I am amazed that even though there were thousands in Houston and thousands in many other cities, not more people attended.

Why hasn't everyone gotten fed up?

Why we didn't do this during Bush's term, you might ask? My first thought was that it has taken time to get to this place but also.....he scared the shit out of me. If you protested you could be taken out back and shot when Bush was President......okay maybe not but are you fucking kidding me?

I guess that is one great thing about Obama being President. I feel that I am safe and can actually protest and not fear being arrested and marked as a terrorist. Pretty cool if you ask me. You can tell there is already a different tone to the current Presidency.

Oh and then the day ended with hearing it be called "Teabagging". And then I cried a little. Seriously.....teabagging?

100th post and I end up with "teabagging".

Sunday's pictures and Easter

On the camping trip this weekend this little guy found his way to us. He was saved from the camping fire. He became a fellow camper's friend the rest of the trip (well at least until we left).

This kid became friends with my red-headed son all weekend long.

He kept asking me to take his picture so that the RHS could remember him.

Hunter....we will never forget you. You are one of a kind.

Mental Checklists

So we are getting ready for our annual Easter camping trip. I guess I can't really call it annual as we have only done it like 3 times in the past 7 years but us and our friends really try to make it when possible.

This year it will be family camping. It should be really interesting.

The other night we all took a trip to Academy and bought us new fishing poles. I am so stoked. I keep telling the kid about the last time that we went camping at this particular campsite and how the fish were continually biting and all the old fishermen kept coming closer so they could get a piece of the action.

We are all excited. Now if I could just blink my eyes and us already be there with the tent already set up and me with a beer in my hand. That would be the best!

Happy Easter everyone!
